With World Hepatitis Day just around the corner (July 28th), now is a good time to remind Congress about the importance of continued funding and support for critical hepatitis B services and programs. Although the COVID-19 pandemic remains top priority, we cannot lose momentum towards eliminating other infectious diseases like viral hepatitis during this time – especially knowing that people with liver disease may be at greater risk of complications from COVID-19.
We encourage you to take time during this week leading up to World Hepatitis Day to reach out to your Members of Congress – via email, phone, and/or social media – to help raise awareness and advocate for hepatitis B prevention, surveillance, and research to find a cure. (For more background on this year's appropriations and other legislative requests for Congress, check out our updated advocacy fact sheet at bit.ly/hepb2020 and additional resources at http://www.hepbunited.org/advocacy.)
