In honor of World Hepatitis Day 2024, the Hepatitis B Foundation has released a new position statement calling for expanded hepatitis B treatment around the world. This statement brings the patient voice and community experience to the table – while remaining supported by science and expert opinion.
Hepatitis B Foundation's Expanded Treatment Position Statement:
Hepatitis B Foundation takes the position that all people living with chronic hepatitis B and having any detectable hepatitis B viral DNA in the blood, should be considered eligible and offered treatment with currently available therapeutics, if ANY one of the following criteria is met:
1. They have a family history of cirrhosis or HCC;
2. They are older than 30 years of age;
3. They request treatment;
4. They have evidence of liver inflammation or liver damage;
5. They have co-morbidities or other risk factors that support treatment.
The Hepatitis B Foundation invites organizations and individuals to express their support for expanding hepatitis B treatment globally.
